High performance low noise coherent transmitter
Abstract
Detection of targets with reduced sizes of radar cross section in severe clutter environment has become an interesting parameter for the radar designer. The state of the art technique of radar signal processing such as the optimum or adaptive signal processors enable the clutter cancellation of the order of 60dB. The principal parameter that limits the radar system performance against the unwanted clutter cancellation is contributed by the transmitter noise. This calls for a design of fully coherent transmitter with a noise performance matching the processor capability. The transmitter design parameters have been worked out keeping in view the overall system improvement factor needed for a high performance radar.
