Kalman filter technique in detection and estimation of radar signals
Abstract
When detecting and tracking targets in realistic physical and electromagnetic environments, extraneous disturbance signals other than the target being tracked may lead to degradation of detection and tracking performance (sometimes resulting in losing the track altogether). Many different approaches have been taken to improve detection and/or tracking performance, among which the Kalman filter as an optimal estimator. In this paper, a Kalman-filter algorithm is used for detecting a moving target immersed in noise and estimating its parameters. The algorithm is not complex and can be considered as a nice approach for detection and estimation problems. Simulation results showed that the filter gave accurate and highly reliable estimates.
