Numerical modeling techniques according to the wave equation and the ray method
Abstract
Computer programs were developed to solve the elastic or acoustic wave equation. They provide partial solutions according to the method of asymptotic series approximations to the elastic wave equation (ray methods), the three dimensional image-ray method, and the two dimensional finite difference method in the time-distance domain. In exploration seismics these numerical modeling techniques can be used to evaluate the recording quality of field measurements, to acquire information about suitable processing parameters, or to check the interpretation of survey areas.
