Numerical experiment on the focusing of laser beams in conditions of thermal self-defocusing
Abstract
The focusing of a Gaussian beam in a moving weakly absorbing medium is considered. The wave equation in the parabolic approximation is solved numerically by the double-splitting method. For a diffraction distance of z = 0.5, dependences of the peak intensity in the focal plane on the focusing parameter are obtained for various values of the nonlinearity parameter. An empirical relationship between the optimal focusing parameter and the modulus of the nonlinear parameter is determined.
