Software for determining spacecraft attitude by star-pattern recognition
Abstract
Problems in the development of a highly precise attitude sensor using star-pattern recognition are examined along with problems in the processing of data from this sensor with the purpose of determining the attitude of onboard scientific instruments in a stellar coordinate system. The basic stages in the processing of these data are discussed. Attention is given to numerical experiments concerning attitude-determination accuracy as a function of the accuracy of stellar coordinate measurements, the number of stars, and the stellar geometry in the sensor FOV.
