Advances in image pickup and display. Volume 6
Abstract
Articles on three relatively well-established image technologies are presented: color cathode ray tubes, gas panel displays, and solid-state image sensors. The first article stresses shadow-mask color tubes, but also provides an up-to-date survey of recent developments in other types of color tubes. The second article provides a complete discussion on research and development problems associated with gas-discharge panels for displaying color television images. The areas stressed include: the study of individual cells, the development of associated photoluminescent phosphors and the optimization of cell geometry; the design of large multielement panels; and the development of special circuits for addressing the display. The third article, on image sensors and related applications, reviews the reemergence of older X-Y addressed photodiode-array sensors in television-type applications, the development of silicon-type CCD scanners combined with a separate photoconductive layer, and the emergence of new CCD image sensors.
