Planning a large satellite communications network
Abstract
Substantial changes are taking place in the data communications systems used by the Atmospheric Environment Service (AES). Following the implementation of the National Computer Communications System (NCCS), a satellite-based broadcast Meteorological Information System (METSIS) is being proposed for implementation beginning in 1985. This system will take advantage of the inherent broadcast capability of satellite communications to provide cost-effective services for a large and geographically dispersed operation. The high-speed services to be implemented in 1985 will meet the needs of many high-volume data users.
