Controlled test procedures for using intervocalic cosmonauts to assess speech intelligibility: A feasibility study
Abstract
A preliminary version of an intelligibility test based on intervocalic consonant excised from connected speech was developed and compared with the Diagnostic Rhyme Test (DRT), which is based on initial consonants of syllables spoken in isolation. The intervocalic consonants showed different patterns of losses than the DRT when the speech was processed through four digital voice processors. Intelligibility losses under conditions of noise and low-pass filtering were also investigated.
