Numerical predictions of turbulent flow separation
Abstract
This paper is intended as a demonstration that the designer can use an alternative method, namely a numerical one, to experimental program in performing parametric study of practical problems such as separated flows in confined coaxial jet configuration with sudden enlargement and in straight walled diffusers. The present numerical method solves the governing equations, in finite difference form. Turbulence simulation is by way of a two-equation turbulence model. Computational results show the interesting effects of various design parameters on the subsequent flowfield development, separation and performance.
