Flow-through boundary conditions for time-dependent, buoyancy-influenced flow simulations using low order finite elements
Abstract
Two methods are presented to extend the utility of outflow natural boundary conditions from isothermal flows to those in which an additional vertical pressure gradient, associated with buoyancy-influenced flows, is important. Each of these methods approximates the pressure contribution to the natural boundary conditions in a time-dependent way. The methods are derived and demonstrated in two-dimensions and the extension to three-dimensions is discussed.
