Directional crystallization of Pb Te under microgravity conditions
Abstract
Some PbTe undoped single crystals were grown by directional crystallization from partially remelted cylindrical ingots in the 100 direction in the Salyut furnace under microgravity conditions and on Earth. Surface morphology, structural perfection and electrical physical parameters of the Space and Earth grown crystals were compared. Differences in morphological characteristics of space and Earth grown crystals are found. Significant inhomogeneities observed in space and Earth-grown ingots indicate the non-steady-state of the growth process.
