Influence of geometry on oscillatory Marangoni flows
Abstract
The dependence of oscillation onset in Marangoni flow on the aspect ratio and shape factor of the floating zone was evaluated for different Prandtl number silicon oils. The performance of the floating zone was studied and the relationship between the governing quantities was validated for regimes occurring during the heating and the cooling processes. The heat transfer efficiency decrease, in oscillatory Marangoni motion, was experimentally demonstrated. Results show that convective effects induced by the Marangoni flow are proportional to the Peclet number at steady Marangoni flow.
