Millimetric microstrip components and their application to integrated front-ends
Abstract
This paper describes the development of millimetric microstrip components and integration techniques essential for the realization of radar/radiometric front-ends to operate in the 60-100 GHz frequency band. Recent advances in mixer technology, and the performance characteristics of new configurations including rugged compact balanced mixers and single sideband (SSB) up and down converters are discussed. PIN switch circuitry receives special attention. As an illustration of integration techniques the paper describes also the design concepts of simple 94 GHz radar receiver duplexers and of more complex 94 GHz twin-channel front-ends. These MICs combine circulator, balanced mixer and PIN switch circuit functions on single substrates.
