'Manpack' SHF satellite ground terminal
Abstract
Two prototype equipments built at RSRE have demonstrated the feasibility of SHF (7-8 GHz) satellite ground terminals which can be carried, and deployed in less than 2 minutes, by one soldier. These terminals provide either duplex 50 bit/sec telegraph or analog speech communications to a main satellite ground station. Further development of the concept in Industry has led to engineered versions of the Manpack terminal which are ergonomically superior to the prototypes and which can be tuned over 500 MHz in the receive and transmit frequency bands of SHF military satellites.
