Satellite attitude stability provided by a rotor subjected to difficult operating conditions
Abstract
The attitude stability of a rigid gravity gradient satellite containing a rotor is analyzed. The rotor can be operated in two different ways. In the first case, its angular velocity is kept constant. In the second, the rotor is free to rotate. These cases are respectively known as ""restrained" and ""free". Using different Liapunov functions like the Hamiltonian or a combination of first integrals, the stability conditions are derived and compared.
