Gas dynamic effects in stimulated Raman scattering
Abstract
The effect on stimulated emission of acoustic waves in the amplifier medium is considered, using a simple model in which the stimulating incident wave is assumed to be plane and monochromatic and the amplifier medium is taken to be a molecular gas with one internal transition frequency. By using a systematic, non-heuristic method which has been developed for describing the interaction of a gas laser medium with the electromagnetic field, the energy and momentum distribution of the source term for the emitted wave as a function of acoustic wave parameters are determined. A qualitative discussion of the implications for stimulated Raman scattering is given.
