Stellar and planetary magnetism
Abstract
The dynamo theory is discussed along with high conductivity dynamos and flux expulsion, taking into account induction in turbulent conductors, the mean-field approach to spherical dynamo models, remarks on the alpha-effect and dynamo action in spherical models, topological pumping effects on the alpha-square-dynamo mechanism, turbulence and magnetic fields, and magnetic flux expulsion in hexagons. Other topics considered are related to solar magnetism, stellar magnetism, geomagnetism, and compositional convection. Attention is given to Reynolds stress theories of solar differential rotation, nonlinear problems of the solar dynamo, model equations for the solar dynamo, low order models of oscillatory magnetoconvection, solar type dynamos in late main sequence stars, the nature of magnetic stars, accretion disk dynamos, and empirical relations between planetary magnetism and tides.
