A standard local network for military command and control
Abstract
Features of a C3I flexible intraconnect local area network (FILAN) for military purposes are outlined. FILAN provides general purpose data transfer and connectivity among devices in a C3I system. A network management scheme guides routing, monitors performance, controls access by a deterministic polling algorithm, and collects statistics. Information is transferred via a parallel shielded miniature coaxial ribbon cable. Standard interconnections have been provided as part of the modular capabilities of FILAN. A demonstration FILAN installation being readied at NORAD in Cheyenne Mountain will furnish the communication circuits between all NORAD information systems.
