Data broadcast protocols and their throughput efficiencies
Abstract
Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) protocols are investigated for broadcast (point-to-multipoint) data transmission. General analytical expressions, independent of the broadcast medium, are obtained for throughput efficiencies of these multidestination protocols. As specific examples, the analysis is applied to a satellite broadcast environment with either an active (regenerative) or a passive (nonregenerative) repeater on board.
