A phase modulation evaluation procedure for an ARGOS type signal
Abstract
A simple procedure which allows evaluation of the three phase-modulation levels of an ARGOS signal using only a spectrum analyzer is described. When symmetry is inherent and only the total span is adjustable, a staircase type modulating signal is suggested. When each level is adjusted separately, a square-wave type signal is suggested. Analytic expressions of the expected theoretical spectrums are given and plotted with measured spectrums. The correct modulation levels are identified by visual inspection of the spectrum display.
