Ship terminal phased array developments in Sweden and Finland
Abstract
Laboratory models of phased array antennas intended for ships were built. The Finnish antenna has five panels arranged on a cube; the Swedish one has two panels on top of each other, the upper one slanted. The Swedish antenna system moves on a vertical axis; all panels have 8 x 8 elements. The Finnish antenna has crossed dipoles, the Swedish one cavity backed circular slots. Phase shifters, switches, power dividers, diplexers and steering systems were built. Finland used a monopulse steering system, Sweden conical scan. Both antennas have 22 dB directivity and 20 dB gain. The Swedish antenna was successfully tested at sea.
