Cryogenic cooler simulation
Abstract
A simulation model of a Stirling closed-cycle cryogenic cooler of the type used to cool the infrared detector of a tactical missile to cryogenic temperature is presented. The simulation model was developed to examine methods of improving the refrigeration capacity observed in laboratory tests of a breadboard cryoengine. The resultant simulation described in this paper accomplishes this objective and provides useful insight into cryoengine operation. Development from a simplified theory of cryoengine operation to a conceptual model through engineering equations is detailed.
