Muons and electrons in general
Abstract
Simultaneously identification electrons and muons in a general purpose detector at a luminosity of 10 33 cm -2 sec -1 was addressed. The signatures of new effects to be found at high rates are not well predicted, and it may be necessary to look simultaneously for some combination of jets, missing Et, electrons, and muons. This leads to an open geometry with magnetic tracking and calorimetry. At high luminosity which gets trigger information quickly is a prime concern. If a given signature requires isolating individual events then even for an optimistic integration time of 20 ns, the optimal luminosity is about 2 x 10 32 cm -2 sec -1.
