Some special possibilities for heat loss recuperation
Abstract
Convective heat exchange furnace design is discussed. Upper limits to the speed of heat transfer agents are considered. Acceleration increases system current resistance, leading to increased ventilation costs, but for a given heat transfer agent speed, the heat transfer coefficient can be varied by manipulating surface shape, position, and current. For example, the convective heat transfer coefficient is 30% higher for transverse currents than for currents parallel to the surface, so in tunnel furnaces a series of baffles can ensure that heat transfer is guided transversally.
