New generation of infrared horizon scanning sensor for low altitude spacecraft
Abstract
The STD 12 infrared horizon scanning sensor is designed for attitude control, with respect to the earth, of three-axis stabilized satellites in low altitude earth orbits. The operational accuracy is better than 0.1 arc degree. After presenting the attitude measurement performances required for the SPOT platform, the STD 12 concept is described and the results of qualification and life tests are given.
