Viking - A low cost scientific satellite description and test results
Abstract
This paper describes Viking-Sweden's first satellite. Viking permits advanced scientific measurements in the field of magnetospheric and auroral research at a very low total cost. The low cost features can be applied to other types of small satellites. Viking is planned to be launched together with SPOT in early 1985 with the Ariane launcher from the CSG launch site at Kourou, French Guyana. The orbit will be elliptical with apogee 15,000 km, perigee 822 km, and inclination 98.7 deg.
