Intelsat business service
Abstract
Service features and characteristics of Intelsat business services (IBS) are described. The fully digital, near-earth spacecraft interface with ground stations on or near customer facilities. The service is subscribed to on full-, part-time, or occasional use bases, the first two forms by lease. Global coverage in the K- and C-band frequencies is available from the Intelsat satellites, which will include the V-B configuration beginning in 1986. Point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and full connectivity service is offered on a nonpreemptible basis, with privacy ensured by encryption and quality by a 1/1,000,000 bit error rate. Capacity features 64, 128, and 256 kbps in low-medium data streams and 1.544 and 2.048 Mbps at high rates, with access by quarternary phase shift keying with FDMA techniques. Billing is effected on monthly, hourly, and half-hourly schedules.
