Finite element methods in fluid dynamics
Abstract
A synthesis of the development of the finite element method for computational fluid dynamics is presented, limiting the analysis to viscous incompressible fluid flows. Numerical models with modal finite elements, their functional and structural properties and role in fluid flow simulation are extensively discussed. Also discussed in detail are some new numerical models based on hybrid and mixed finite elements. Finally, the modified variational principles for the Navier-Stokes equations, the method of weighted residuals emphasizing the Galerkin criterion and a series of numerical examples are some of the other points covered in the book.
