The effect of improved correlations for mixture properties on convective heat transfer
Abstract
Heat transfer rates in convective flows depend on several fluid physical properties. In this paper, heat transfer rates in fluid mixtures have been calculated using recently developed techniques based on the corresponding states theory. The results are then compared with those obtained using the mole average method of predicting mixture properties. The results have shown that using incorrect mixing rules for systems such as ethane-nitrogen can lead to errors of up to fifty percent,, in heat transfer rates. For other systems, such as ethane-carbon dioxide the errors were relatively smaller.
