Test Operations Procedure: Signal converters
Abstract
This test operations procedure (TOP) delineates general test and specific subtest procedures required to measure the technical performance of Signal Converters. Comparison of test results with criteria and technical specifications permits evaluation of the their suitability for an intended use. Signal Converters are required to effect ovrall signaling compatiblity in the many types and combinations of communication facilities, systems and associated signaling chemes comprising a military network. This TOP is limited to test outlined herein, which are applicable only to signal converters whose principal purpose is to alter the form of telephone or telegraph functional signals having dissimilar line or terminal signaling characteristics. Functional signals are defined as those employed in most communication circuits to operate signaling devices or switching equipment as opposed to the-intelligence-bearing signals. Applicable common engineering tests TOPs are listed but not included.
