Gas-discharge panels for displaying color television images
Abstract
Research achievements on gas-discharge display panels since work was initiated in 1972 is described, emphasizing cell configurations in which tricolor phosphors are excited by VUV radiation generated by a discharge in rare gases. Basic studies associated with the development of these panels are first reviewed, including gases producing UV radiation, phosphors, gas-discharge cells, and picture display systems. The structure, features, and fundamental characteristics of a ten-inch planar positive-column panel and TV display system are described. Finally, a sixteen-inch color TV panel with two-line-at-a-time driving and associated display system is discussed.
