The effects of large heat release on a two dimensional mixing layer
Abstract
Studies have been conducted regarding the effects of combustion on a flow in which hot combustion products ignite cold premixed reactants in a two-dimensional free mixing layer. The present investigation is concerned with the effect of heat release on a two-dimensional mixing layer, taking into account the visualization of the flow field with the aid of conventional and Schlieren photography. The velocity was measured using a two color two component laser Doppler velocimetry system. The measurements were utilized to determine the flame and the mixing layer growth rates. The experiments were carried out in a two-dimensional two-stream combustion tunnel. It was found that the mixing layer structure was qualitatively unaffected by heat release.
