Development and qualification of a 20 GHz/30 W traveling wave tube
Abstract
A traveling wave tube for application in 20 GHz satellite telecommunication systems is presented. Three prequalification samples were constructed and submitted to thermal and mechanical environment tests. Tubes were tested in a temperature range of -15 to -85 C and under a mechanical load of 19.6 g by vibration. Test results show no mechanical or electrical alteration. Main characteristics are: frequency range 17 to 21.5 GHz, effective bandwidth 1 GHz, saturation output 25 W, efficiency 38 %, weight 90 g, and expected life time 7 yr.
