Kinetics of lasers with unstable cavities and short inversion times
Abstract
A method is developed for calculating the parameters of lasers with unstable cavities and shortlived active media which allows for the three-dimensional geometry of the medium and continuously increasing spontaneous emission. The method is tested for a copper vapor laser. The angular and energy characteristics of the output light are analyzed as a function of the cavity parameters, and the experimentally observed self-modulation effect is explained.
