Convective instability of a planar gas layer in the absence of external forces
Abstract
A gas bounded by two parallel isothermal planes is considered. It is shown using time-dependent hydrodynamic equations allowing for the Barnett temperature stress that the gas may be convectively unstable if the two planes are at different temperatures.
