Interaction of orthogonally polarized counterpropagating waves in ring lasers with a homogeneously broadened gain line
Abstract
A theoretical analysis is presented of the interaction of counterpropagating waves of linear orthogonal polarization in a solid-state ring laser with a homogeneously broadened gain line and arbitrary pumping excess over the threshold value. The active medium is modeled by an array of randomly oriented linear or circular dipoles. It is shown that in the case of the linear-dipole model there exist stable steady-state generation regimes for counterpropagating waves with similar and significantly different intensities. Such regimes do not exist in the case of the circular-dipole model.
