Heat transfer and flow resistance in the turbulent pipe flow of a fluid with near-critical state parameters
Abstract
A new procedure for measuring the hydraulic characteristics of fluid flows with variable properties is used to obtain comprehensive experimental data on the heat transfer and flow resistance associated with the heating of carbon dioxide at supercritical pressure in horizontal and vertical tubes in the normal and impaired heat-transfer regimes. A simple and effective analytical expression for the normal heat transfer is proposed on the basis of the experimental results, generalizing the data for water, helium, and carbon dioxide. The demarcation of the normal and impaired heat-transfer regimes is discussed. The experimental data on the friction and acceleration resistance factors in the heating of CO2 are generalized by empirical relations.
