Broadcast satellites in Europe
Abstract
The way in which nationalist sentiment has impeded the development of a pan-European television service is discussed. It is pointed out that many nations are moving individually to implement their own satellite services, services that can be received in other countries as well. The systems being developed separately by the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, Scandinavia, Switzerland, and Austria are described, with attention also given to the plans in Eastern Europe. A table is included listing the TV satellites in Western Europe that are in operation or under development.
