An analytical model for the evaporation duct, and application to radar
Abstract
An analytical model describing the evaporation-duct refraction of radar waves was developed. In order to make the model applicable to determine the radar range under duct conditions, the radar pattern function was synthesized using elementary point sources. It is shown that the exponential evaporation duct and the pattern synthesis provide a usable and fast procedure to predict radar performance in an evaporation duct. The range performance for a given antenna height depends strongly on target height. The range performance depends strongly on antenna height.
