Theoretical description of film boiling in a two phase flow calculation
Abstract
For the description of free convection film boiling on vertical plates, horizontal cylinders, and spheres, a two phase model was used. The boundary layer equations were reduced to systems of ordinary differential equations using a combination of similarity transformations and series expansions. The resulting differential equations were integrated numerically. The case of laminar free convection was studied. The results of the calculations performed for a water system are discussed. Comparison with the single phase model was made. The boundary layer thickness and the influence of the convective and mass transport term of the Navier-Stokes equations are studied up to a wall temperature of 1573K.
