A group delay standard for the MHz frequency range
Abstract
An extremely simple group delay standard for the frequency range between 500 kHz and 5.5 MHz and the group delay range between 3 nsec and 2.3 microsec is described. The Nyquist method for the measurement of the group delay is explained. The standard comprises an all-pass filter, which only contains a few passive components. The known specifications of the components provide the effective transfer function, and from the phase curve the variation of group delay with operating frequency is calculated. Therefore, it is possible to trace the measurement of group delay back to the measurement of ohmic resistors, capacities, and frequencies.
