Performance of a large area flash chamber prototype
Abstract
Flash chambers of 3mx3m area, totalling 72,000 flash tubes of 0.5cmx0.5cm cross-section, 3m long, read-out at one end by capacitive pick-up, for a neutron-antineutron experiment are described. Performance tests of a chamber prototype show a good uniformity of the efficiency over the entire area and a negligible amount of spurious firing. The recovery time is 0.5 sec per tube.
