Methods for the design of quantizers for image signals
Abstract
Design methods based on statistical and subjective methods for application to PCM and DPCM transmission are reviewed. The analysis shows that the best choice is to design the quantizer to minimize output signal entropy while maintaining a low distortion level. The image quality levels are given in the perception space after identifying appropriate metrics and functions.
