Comparison of analytical theories for studying the contraction of artificial satellite orbits
Abstract
An analytical solution of the noncanonical system of differential equations governing the motion of an artificial Earth satellite disturbed by the effects of air drag and geopotential is proposed, based on the method of variation of parameters. This solution is compared with the classical one proposed by Brouwer and Hori in 1961 for the same problem. Numerical results for a balloon type satellite are presented.
