On the stability of boundary-induced flows and modons
Abstract
Sufficient stability conditions are used to check the stability of equivalent barotropic boundary induced flows, (simple inertial boundary currents and loop flows). It is found that the kinetic energy and entropy of a small scale perturbation superimposed on a large scale solitary wave do not grow in time. This property is proven to hold for equivalent modons, which are very resistant to small scale disturbances.
