Analysis of a Cassegrain antenna having a Gaussian illumination pattern
Abstract
A Cassegrain antenna for a Gaussian illumination pattern using the aperture integration technique was analyzed. Loss of gain due to displacement of the feed horn both in the focal plane and along the antenna axis is calculated. The gain degradation which results from spillover on the main reflector which occurs when the feed horn is displaced laterally was examined. Aperture efficiency and the loss due to radome space frame and membrane were estimated. Specific values for the Metsahovi radio telescope are obtained.
