Hazardous conditions in single enclosures subjected to fire
Abstract
Computer modeling was applied to predict the environmental conditions in single space enclosures resulting from growing fires. The calculated times which occur when the critical events, smoke logging and flashover, in single enclosures are presented. The times when sprinklers and fire detectors operate are given for enclosures of various size and ventilation conditions. It is suggested that the results may be applicable to real fire scenarios in enclosures of various types and contents. The relative increase of risk to life and to property, in terms of shrinking time, when the doubling time of a fire decreases from 5 to 1 minute is shown.
