Utilization of satellite observations to determine the mean orbital elements
Abstract
A special case of the boundary-value problem of perturbed Kepler motion is considered; namely, satellite motion in the aspherical gravitational field of the Earth. For this, an analytical solution in the form of mean orbital elements is known. An overview of existing methods for solving this boundary-value problem is given. A method for determining the mean orbital elements is presented and their convergence is investigated. Results from test calculations are given, using two types of observed values - combined range and angle measurements and pure direction measurements.
