Polarimetric principles and techniques
Abstract
The mathematical formulation of a polarimetric theory for radar scattering is outlined. Physical interpretation of fundamental results from the theory of nonsingular linear transformations and the general scattering problem treated as a geometrical transformation on the Poincare sphere are treated. Second order statistical effects in polarimetric scattering are introduced via the coherency matrix and Stokes vector. The matrix governing transformation of these second order parameters is related to the elements of the coherent scattering matrix.
