Computation of the Wyner-Ziv rate distortion function
Abstract
The Wyner-Ziv configuration (source coding situation with a fidelity criterion only, where the decoder gets side information from the sorce) is considered. The rate distortion function is formulated in terms of Shannon strategies. This formulation is proved to be continuous for distortion 0. Using the formulation an algorithm that computes the Wyner-Ziv function, is found. With FORTRAN computer programs based on this algorithm, the Wyner-Ziv function for three sources are computed and plotted.
